Visa Reunion Island

Visa & Formalities

La Reunion is a french department but it’s not part of the Schengen treaty. The formalities for entry to La Reunion are almost the same as for France, but a few exceptions.

A passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the last day of stay is required, except for the nationals of UE countries who hold a valid national identity card or a valid passport for the duration of their stay.

Citizens of a few Western countries, including Australia, the USA, Canada and New Zealand, do not require visas to visit La Reunion as tourists for up to 3 months.

Other nationals should check with the French embassy or nearest consulate to find out visa requirements. For example, Brazilian citizens do not need a visa to enter mainland France, but do require a visa for La Reunion.

For trips exceeding 3 months, a long-stay visa is required, except for the citizens of the UE. Nationals that don’t need a visa need to apply for a residence permit (carte de séjour). Contact the Service des Etrangers at the
